JSS Swim Meet Meet is at UBC on 6th of May

Established in 1976, JSS (Japan Swimming Services) is one of the biggest fitness companies in Japan. The idea of the 'JSS Grand Masters Swimming Championship' came from  members who wanted to get together with other swimmers and compete. To take the event one step further, one JSS member suggested a swim meet on an international level by taking their competitions outside of Japan. The JSS Chairman liked this idea so decided that JSS should go abroad every 2 years to meet and compete with foreign Master swimmers. This biennial JSS Grand Masters competition is always held in a long course pool to more closely represent international competitions. This event is a good opportunity for JSS members to establish friendships and comradery between members as well as to compete and travel.

This year, JSS comes to Vancouver, Canada and the competition will take place @ the UBC Aquatic Centre Sunday, May 6th. The meet will start with the 200 IM followed by 50s then 100s of each stroke and finish up with 200 Free Relays. We are looking for 50 Master swimmers to represent Canada. This 'non-sanctioned' meet will commence with warm-ups @9.30am, Opening Ceremonies @10.30 and should wrap up by 3pm. All of the competitors will then be taken to the host hotel for a special awards dinner hosted by 'Team Japan'. This will be a full day affair - swim meet & dinner and you must commit to both in order to participate.

I will be contacting MSABC teams, and 'Team Canada' will be capped @ 50 swimmers. Please let me know if you are interested as participation will be on a first-come-first serve basis. There is a $10 fee which covers meet entry, a box lunch during the competition, plus the Awards Dinner. Team Japan is not made up of elite athletes; swimming is just the sport that brought them together, so this meet will focus more on fun camaraderie than high level competition. Please send your name, date of birth & gender to vanguy@telus.net no later then Sunday, April 29th.

Conall Barr, President - Canadian Dolphin Swim Club
Khosro Mansuri, Head Coach - English Bay Swim Club/North Shore Masters
